Different Light - Binary Suns (Part 2 - Alternate Reality) (2026)

Different Light was originally formed in Malta at the end of 1994. In 2008 founding member Trevor Tabone reformed the band in Prague, Czech Republic, with the current line-up. They have released 5 studio albums so far.

This weekend I am streaming their fifth album and latest release: Different Light - Binary Suns (Part 2 - Alternate Reality). It is a continuation of the album 'Binary Suns (part 1)'  released in 2020, both thematically and musically. Some musical themes from the previous album are picked up again and incorporated into the new themes.

The style, harmonics and musical hooks sound a bit like Supertramp, but without saxophone and with a bit heavier guitars. (I wished, the real Supertramp had proceeded like this, with keeping the saxophone, of course.) The vocals, however, remind more of Kevin Cronin, lead singer of REO Speedwagon. Fans of Supertramp of the years 1974-1983 should definitely give this band a try.

Steve Hackett - The Tokyo Tapes (1998) (CD2)

This weekend I am streaming CD 2 one of my favourite live albums of all times: The Tokyo Tapes by Steve Hackett. For this recording Steve Hackett assembled a kind of a 'supergroup' with John Wetton, Ian McDonald (both Ex-King Crimson) and Chester Thompson (Ex-Genesis live drummer, Unitopia).

Theme: different countries

This weekend I am playing a theme: all songs originate from different countries.
Additionally rules: all songs are shorter than 6 minutes. Shorter was not possible if I want to get decent prog rock songs. All songs are newer than the year 2000.
